The Future Now Tour featuring Nick Jonas & Demi Lovato at the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA on August 17th, 2016
Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas embarked on their 2016 Honda Civic Tour earlier this summer, also known as the Future Now Tour. They made a stop at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and fans were thoroughly impressed.
A co-headlining tour, Lovato and Jonas performed a variety of hits from their latest releases Confident and Last Year Was Complicated, respectively. The show kicked off at 7pm with Mike Posner. Posner didn’t utilize any special theatrics for his set, but hits such as “Please Don’t Go” and “I Took a Pill In Ibiza” definitely got the crowd pumped.
Nick Jonas arrived to the stage around 8:15pm, accompanied by a few stage spotlights and a live band. Jonas broke out into “Levels,” proceeding into “Champagne Problems.” He paid a homage to his time with the Jonas Brothers, with a reference to the filming of their concert movie at the same venue. “Some of you may remember we did a 3D movie here,” he stated attempting to bring a little bit of nostalgia to his fanbase before going right into “Bacon.” Jonas closed out the first part of his set with fan-favorite “Chains.”
The lights dropped for several seconds before a leather jacket-clad Demi Lovato emerged from a raised platform center stage, lit only by silhouette. Taking a break from her short, edgy, rocker chic look, Lovato sported longer locks on this date of the tour, reminiscent of her Unbroken days. As Lovato gives the audience a stare only as fierce as she herself, she goes directly into “Confident,” the hit inspired by the album of the same name. Lovato continued into her set with “Neon Lights,” off her 2014 album, Demi. She also included more recent hits off Confident including “Lionheart” and “For You,” before handing the microphone back over to Jonas. The two acts alternated in between songs throughout the show.
Jonas came back out to perform “Jealous,” and brought out special guest 2 Chainz specifically for the Anaheim show. 2 Chainz definitely kept the crowd entertaining with “I’m Different” and “Watch Out,” but the crowd seemed taken quite off-guard. It was clear that while 2 Chainz absolutely has the entertainment factor, many guests were not expecting a rap artist at a pop concert. As 2 Chainz exited after his two numbers, Jonas returned to the stage for his most recent single, “Close,” who had Lovato fill in for Tove Lo’s verse. Their vocals blended exceptionally well on this number, and was most definitely a crowd pleaser.
Lovato closed out the show with “Skyscraper,” “Give Your Heart a Break,” and a heavier-sounding version of “Cool For the Summer.” Lovato and Jonas will continue on their 2016 Honda Civic Tour through September 2016, concluding in Inglewood, California.
